afaict, this doesn't happen with my Win NT debug version. I need some more data from the submitter. I don't understand the phrase "just about the time i was going to backspace." My understanding: 1. you were running the browser 2. you were loading a page (was the page fully loaded? what url?) 3. you clicked in the url bar 4. you used the mouse to highlight the entire contents of the url bar. (was the entire URL visible, or did highlighting with the mouse cause it to scroll?) 5. you let go of the left mouse button to finish selection 6. you did NOT hit backspace, or any other key. 7. the browser crashed sometime after you let go of the mouse button, but before you did anything else. please correct me where my assuptions are wrong.
Whiteboard: no feedback from submitter yet. will mark invalid unless we hear from him soon.

never got any feedback from submitter, and haven't found anybody who can reproduce. marking WorksForMe.
*spam* changing qa contact from nobody@mozilla.org to me (BlakeR1234@aol.com) on 121 open or resolved (but not verified) bugs. sorry for the spam everybody, but most of these bugs would just remain dormant and not checked by QA otherwise. I'm not sure how so many bugs have nobody as their QA contact, but I suspect this is the fault of some sort of bugzilla corruption that happened at some point (most of these bugs are in the 20000-26000 range, and I don't see where in the activity log that QA contact explicitly changed to nobody@mozilla.org) Anyways, sorry again for spam. If you really get annoyed, I'm usually available in #mozilla on IRC for torture.
