I have subscribed to a newsgroup but every time I select that group in the tree
pane I am prompted with "Would you like to subscribe..." dialog. If I select yes
then it rereads the list of groups and shows all the messages as unread, even
though they were all previously marked as read. If I select cancel, then the
cursor turns to an hourglass and will not change back until mail/news window is
closed.

After further investigation it appears that this is caused by:

176326 - Unable to create multiple news accounts on same server with the same
username.

I had previous tried to create multiple accounts to the same server (with
different account names but different usernames. None of the additional ones
showed up anywhere in the UI, but apparently they were still in the
configuration   and it looks like Mozilla was getting confused by them.
