Details
With the checkin to bug 165960, we need a new "Help Viewer" product to cover the
new Help Viewer for Firebird.
*Owner*: rlk@mozdev.org (the author, who is me)
*QA Contact*: stolenclover@yahoo.com.tw (QA Contact of Seamonkey Help component)
This probably should be someone else, since Daniel seems to be very busy lately
to do much QA work.
*Description*: Use this component to report problems with the Help menu, Help
menu items, and Help Viewer in Firebird. Examples: Clicking a Help menu item
fails to open the appropriate Help file; a Help document contains inaccurate
information or typos; or Help Viewer missing buttons.
Ben Goodger said in an email to me that he approved of this component addition.

Actually, change QA contact to mconnor@myrealbox.com. Daniel seems to have his
hands full with his current QA and Documentation contributions.

Assuming this can wait a couple of weeks, it'll get done as part of the big
bugzilla reorg. Owner will be nobody@mozilla.org and QA will be the watchable
account core.help.viewer@bugs.

Done. I added the component to Browser since that is the component that will be
renamed Core in due course, and this component will eventually live in Core.

hm, won't firebird and seamonkey have different help viewers?

Comment 5•22 years ago

Yes, but the Seamonkey product hasn't been created yet, so I can't create that
component yet. See the plan (link above).

ah! no! let's not do that!
This is going to cause lots of confusion! We should have Help Viewer under the
Firebird product. Help component is the Help Viewer component for Seamonkey.
Nobody is going to know the difference (and no real beta tester reads those
component descriptions).

okie dokie. Let's just do this as part of the big plan.
I'd resolve this as LATER but, hey, I campaigned to have that resolution removed
and guess what, people listened. Damnit. When will people stop listening to me.
WONTFIX instead. I've noted the component description in The Plan.

Reopening bug.
Ian, may you please add this component to Firefox product. Once the plan is
actually going to happen, I personally will move all the bugs over to the new
component to save time. The convience and confusion that will be saved will make
it worth the trouble.

"Help Viewer missing buttons." is awkward, perhaps you meant to include a verb.

Hixie: Can you rename this component "Help Viewer" like the bug says and not
"Help" because people are filing bugs with problems in the Help Menu and not
with the Help Viewer.

erm, what do you mean?
the description clearly indicates that's fair game:
Use this component to report problems with the Help menu, Help menu items, and
Help Viewer in Firebird. Examples: Clicking a Help menu item fails to open the
appropriate Help file; a Help document contains inaccurate information or typos;
or Help Viewer missing buttons.

This is not correct. This is supposed to be for problems with the Help Viewer.
This description needs to be changed.
I took that summary from Seamonkey Help without reading it :). Here's a better
summary:
"
Use this component to report problems with the Mozilla Help Viewer in Firebird.
Examples: Clicking a Help menu item fails to open the appropriate Help file; a
Help document contains inaccurate information or typos; or Help Viewer features
missing or not functioning.
"
sorry for the confusion in the bug description.

Last I checked, "missing" is a verb.(In reply to comment #12)

Where should bugs with the Help Menu go?
