People
(Reporter: benc, Assigned: bugzilla)
Details
Firebird 0.7, Win 2K.
(nb and I searched before filing)
STEPS:
Set Firebird as default browser.
Open email in Thunderbird. Click on link in email.
OBSERVED:
Firebird will load the URL, but it always uses the current tab in current window.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
A new window (or tab) should open when this happens.
Loading the old window confuses everything, and loads the new URL into history.
If you go back, then click on a link (as part of your original surfing session),
you truncate the forward history and make the browser forget you went to the
other page that came from the external source.

See also bug 172962, "Option to determine how other applications open new
windows" (reuse window, make a new tab in existing window, make a new window).
I don't know if there's another open bug for making the default setting
reasonable (with or without making it a UI pref).

I certainly believe the default behaviour must be fixed, but in the meantime I
thought this link could be useful...

BTW, this bug can be really frustrating for webmail and forum (hey, and
bugzilla!) users ;-)
