User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20030916 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20030916 I was using the DOM tree to disable and enable various elements on a XUL page, but textboxes would only partly re-enable. What I mean is, I could set the disable attribute to 'true', and the textbox would go gray and I couldn't click on it (fine). But if I set the disable attribute to 'false', it was drawn correctly (white background) but I was unable to click on it and actualy type some input. I had to actually remove the disable attribute in order to get control back. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. document.getElementById('my-textbox').setAttribute('disabled', 'false'); Actual Results: The textbox was drawn correctly, but didn't not respond to events. Expected Results: It should have responded to events.

Here's a simple XUL page that you can test the bug with.
Unless I'm missing something the XUL spec doesn't specify a disabled attribute for textboxes. It does specify a readonly attribute. See http://www.mozilla.org/xpfe/xulref/textbox.html
Summary: Setting the disabled attribute of a textbox only halfway enables it. → Setting the disabled attribute of a textbox only halfway enables it.
