In both cases the download manager window *border* is displayed but the contents of it are not filled in and at this point it crashes. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Attached file Copy of downloads.rdf
Deleting and re-starting Mozilla fixed the crash problem
I've just found out that I can fix the problem by deleting the downloads.rdf file and re-starting Mozilla. The download manager now works fine! :) I've attached a copy of the old downloads.rdf for debug purposes.
I occasionally download to a drive which is not always connected to the system (removable). If this drive is not present, and there are still pending and/or completed downloads in the download manager, then the download manager and the browser will crash (always reproducable). But if the drive is connected and mounted, no error occurs. Conclusion: Download Manager is unable to handle missing/disconnected/unmounted drives.
I confirm that deleting downloads.rdf is a workaround but the bug is still there after you download to a removable (or network) drive, which is unavailable (disconnected) later.
Symptoms and workaround are the same as in bug 235537 -> duping. If this still occurs in the latest nightly then reopen this bug and indicate what's different from bug 235537. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 235537 ***
