I've selected to limit lifetime of the cookies to the current session but when I
restart Mozilla or my PC the stored cookies are still there.

doccino, do you also use the cookie dialogs to accept/reject cookies?  If so,
and you use the "remember this choice" checkbox, those sites will be able to set
persistent cookies that override the session-only preference..  (And if that's
the case, this is a dupe of bug 228396)

Changing Mozilla version from 1.5 to 1.6 I've noticed this difference browsing
in the site www.baronerosso.net

if you look on the cookie sites tab in cookie manager, is that site listed as
being allowed to set cookies?

Yes, it is.  There will be UI for 1.7a that allows always accept for
session-only (the permission backend is there in 1.6 already).
