User-Agent: Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 If I import a complete Mail Folder from Eudora Folder containing many subfolders, Mozilla mail crashes. Importing succeeds with a smaller Eudora Mail Folder (for example a folder with four mailboxes and 400 messages). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Tools Menu 2.Import ... 3.choosing Mail, then Eudora format, then the folder Actual Results: 1. mozilla crashes 2. after restarting mozilla and mail, only very few mail folders were actually imported Expected Results: Import the whole Eudora Folder
WFM Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 I just imported over 33,000 emails distributed across 41 subfolders from Eudora. No crash.
Reporter, can you narrow this problem down to a specific email?
(In reply to comment #2) > Reporter, can you narrow this problem down to a specific email? Could you formulate again your question in other words ? I don't understand exactly what you means.
Well, you have a large mail folder in Eudora, and if you import it, Mozilla crashes after having gone part of the way. You also have a smaller mail folder that imports ok, which seems to suggest that it's the size of the folder. However, comment 2 seems to indicate that maybe size isn't the problem, so I wondered whether it was a specific message (or messages) in those folders that was causing Mozilla to crash - we've had similar problems in the Outlook Express import, so it's possible. So could you try importing the folders one at a time to work out whether you've got one or more 'bad' messages, then try to work out what message is causing the problem? Unforunately, because we don't let you choose what you're going to import (as far as I remember), you'll have to use Eudora to copy your mailbox bit-by-bit into another mailbox, then import that -- or back up your whole mailbox and repeated restore-and-delete-bits. The alternatives are that either: a. you compile Mozilla and debug the problem yourself (a stack trace of the crash would help, if you can produce that), or b. you attach your mail folder to this bug.
(In reply to comment #4) OK. The strategy you are proposing is clear. So I will try to refine my tests.
(In reply to comment #4) Mail folders that are causing Mozilla to crash are typically some containing html format messages. When restarting Mozilla mail, I see that the last (incomplete) imported message is a html message. Meanwhile if I import only the mailbox where the crash occurs, the mailbox is imported successfully. So the size of imported folders is not the main cause as suggested in comment 2. If that can help I am attaching an extraction of the mailbox where the crash occurs (message with Subject: SARC August 2001 Newsletter).

(In reply to comment #7) > Eudora mailbox containing message causing Mozilla to crash > Message is the one whith Subject: SARC August 2001 Newsletter Sorry, are you saying that you *do* crash at this message when you import this mailbox, or that you only crash when importing more than one mailbox at the same time, but that it's always at this message in this mailbox, or something else? I assumed what you've attached is the .mbx file for the mailbox. Is there a corresponding .toc file?

The mailbox I attached *doesnot* cause a crash by itself. The crash behave more randomly than I thought after my first trials. I am importing a hierarchy of folders whose total size is 340 Meg. The crash occurs at different steps (after about 60 Meg imported or after 150 Meg in another test). It seems difficult to send you a 300 Meg folder. The only way would be a transfer by sftp from a local server here. I have no time to start a debugging by myself. > I assumed what you've attached is the .mbx file for the mailbox. Is there a > corresponding .toc file? No, since Eudora 5 (Macintosh version) there are no more .toc files (difference with the Windows version). Mailboxes are plain unix-like files.
