RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 151188

Details

User-Agent:
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040207 Firefox/0.8

If Firefox is not closed correctly, the lock file remains in the profile. This
can be frustrating when trying to open it again and it displays the profile
manager and says "Profile in use" even though there are no other instances of
FireFox running. I suggest either giving an option to use that profile anyway,
or information that tells users that they can go to the profile directory and
delete the lock file. For a lot of developers and others this isn't much of a
problem, but to the average stupid user it would probably frustrate them and
encourage them to return to inferior browsers.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start firefox with profile x
2. Kill firefox (not exit)
3. restart firefox and try to use profile x

Actual Results:
Lock file remains in profile directory.

Expected Results:
Possible fixes:
1) Have firefox check to see if there are other instances of firefox running
that could actually be using a profile before reporting it is in use.
2) Add option to use profile even though there is a lock.
3) Quick info added to the "Profile in use" dialogue that tells the user they
can remove the lock file by hand.

Thanks for the great browser and all the cool stuff associated with it!!!!!
