User-Agent:
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113
The referenced URL uses an object element to include a Windows Media Player,
which should auto-play a media snippet. Mozilla displays the plugin controls and
graphic, but they are distorted, and the media does not play (and cannot be
manually started).
Media is displayed and plays properly in IE 6.
Could also be an object element problem, and not a plugins issue ??
For completeness, installed windows media player is Version 8.00.00.4487 (WMP
for Win XP), with wm82806 hotfix.
Mozilla plugins page claims it is using the plugin file: npdsplay.dll. The one
on this machine is dated 3/31/2003 7:00AM.
Reproducible: Always

Hmmm .. This works for me actually, when using Firefox 2:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0
and WMP 9.00. S
So I don't know why it crashes in bug 340262?

Note that the the testcase page (http://www.fuellessflight.com/index1.htm) code has been modified since the bug was filed.
The original testcase can be obtained from the internet archive:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.fuellessflight.com/index1.htm
in the archive dated February 14 2004.

Just tested with:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b2pre) Gecko/2007111805 Minefield/3.0b2pre
plugin: Windows Media Player 11.0.5721.5230.
The plugin frame is properly laid out on the page (just like in IE 6), and the controls appear to function properly / interact correctly with the mouse.
There is no crash.
But the video does not play, despite several attempts to reload the page.
The video does play in IE 6.

Using WayBack Machine I get same result with both Firefox 3.6.x and IE7: no video at all.
