if i receive a mail with an excel attach file or if i try to compose
a mail with excel attach file mozilla and each component open are frozen.
I need to kill mozilla-bin.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.compose a mail
2.attach excel file (.xls)


Actual Results:  
Mozilla hangs (frozen)

Reporter: Are you seeing this bug  in 1.7b, 1.7a, or both?
What happens if you do the following:

-quit Mozilla
-rename ~/.mailcap to mailcab.bck  (mv ~/.mailcap mailcap.bck)
-restart Mozilla

Does Mozilla then still hang when handling xls files in messages?

The problem is not present in 1.7a. The 1.7b and build 2004032108
have this problem.

Renaming the .mailcap file everything work fine with 1.7b and 
build 2004032108

same problem as in bug 237947 and bug 238081 then - resolving as dup

In preferences->Helper Apps:
Do you have xls files added there? Is the helper app set to ask before
opening xls files? What app is it set to open with? (default application, app
with absolute path, or app with relative path?)

And is it the same as in mailcap? (grep excel mailcap.bck)
