If you copy text with quote symbols (>) in the first column, those are doubled
when pasting into a MailNews composition. Also new lines with one quote symbol
may be introduced.

I cannot find a dupe, but there must be bugs about that.

This bug is bothering me at least more than one year or so (i.e. since I started
to use Mozilla). I hate it, too. Blocking would recommend blocking, too.

I now see this, too.

This only happens when at least two different quotation levels are included in
the pasted text.

Also this is not an issue with pasting but with copying from the Message Pane or
the Stand-alone Window. Just copy something and paste it in any other
application to see the bug.
