This was an email I sent as feedback at netscape.com. The reply directed me
here with my comments:
I can't say that I have alot of faith that this comment will ever reach the
people who can fix the problem, but I figured that I should let you know what's
been on my mind.
For years I have used Netscape, not out of hatred for IE or anything,
but becuse I like it's layout and design much better. More recently however, I
find that I use IE more and more as a number of pages simply do not work in
Netscape and only support IE.
At first I thought pages like that were exploiting small features out
of malice. Only now that I design web pages myself do I realize the kind of
functionality that IE offers to developers. Suddenly I begin to understand why
my co-workers all prefer IE. They also write for the web, and while we all keep
both browsers for testing, IE seems to offer much closer compliance with HTML
4.0 with features that are both powerful (iframes) and visually pleasing
(bgproperties="fixed").
There are many browsers out there for the web, but clearly Netscape
and IE stand out as the most popular and widely used. Why under such
competition a company woulnd't do everything in their power to offer as much
functionaily as possible is lost to me. The least you could do is offer
comparable features if for no other reason but to make it easier for developers
to make cross compatable websites through redirection.
As long as it continues to be difficult or impossible for us to make
our pages work in both browsers, we have little choice but to make the
occational page "IE only" or make watered down, time consuming, alternate pages
that dont have the functionality and features of the original.
As I said earlier I prefer using Netscape over IE but as more and more
websites demand the features Netscape, for whatever reason, will not provide,
people will be drawn away to the platform that allows for the "newest thing".
It is a reality that I have seen at work among my friends, my co-works, and
sadly enough, myself.

Have you tried recent pre-release builds?
http://www.mozilla.org/binaries.html
You will probably be pleasantly surprised.
Let me point out that these features are not easy to implement, and lots of
people have been working hard to do exactly what you suggest.

Bugzilla is for reporting problems in mozilla.org software, not Netscape
software. For more information, please read the instructions at http://
bugzilla.mozilla.org.
Whoever at Netcenter referred you here should not have; we're trying to find out
who it is.
