In the preferences, I've chosen to loop animated images once. I'd like a way to
replay them, for instance by opening the context menu over the image and
clicking on some item "Replay animated image".

The image APIs already support all this and are completely scriptable. You're
just asking for UI. Nothing to do with GFX.
