images are overlain instead of one under each other... I think they should be
one under each other, separated by a line of text. Don't know if HTML has
glitches, but this is rendered correctly in Konqueror and IE.

Not a painting bug.

This only happens for the "top" and "bottom" vertical-align values; it's odd
that the line height is not large enough to fit the images when those values are
used.  

Note that all that stuff pasted in comment 0 doesn't include the style that's
crucial to the problem.... (and would generally be better as an attachment, not
pasted into a comment).
