User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8 When opening an image on a page generated by php, I get a window titled "Opening <filename>". The text says "You have chosen to open "<filename>" from "<url>" which is a: JPEG Image. What should Firefox do with this file?". There are radio buttons for "Open with" and "Save to Disk" and a check box "Do this automatically for files like this from now on." Plus there's a note: "Settings can be changed in the Downloads section of Tools, Options." I mark the check box "do this automatically..." and click OK. The image opens in the Windows default viewer. A blank window/tab remains open which was intended to hold the graphic. Now I open another image, same method -- generated php page. Or I re-open the same image. The "Do the automatically" is ignored, and I get the same window titled "Opening <filename>". Looking at the list of file types in Tools / Options / Downloads / "File Types" "Automatically perform..." I see filetype JPG is listed to be opened with jpegfile. The "Opening <filename> box is always primed to "open with" (not "save to disk") as per the table. Why doesn't Firefox start opening jpeg images automatically, as per the list? Why can't Firefox display the jpeg in the window/tab the web page designer intended, as opposed to launching the windows designated display program? This problem has been reported by at least 3 people on the forums. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open the attachment, MeltedComputer.jpg, which I will attempt to attach after submitting this report. 2. When the "Downloading MeltedComputer.jpg" window appears, select "Open", "Automatically remember" and "OK". 3. Repeat steps one & two, noting that the "Downloading ..." window appears, and the "Automatically..." box is still checked. 4. Goto Tools / Options / Download / "Filetypes" and confirm jpg is on the "automatically" list. Actual Results: A window asking 'what to do' with file always opens, even though the "do this automatically" box is checked and the file type is listed in the "Automatic" list in Tools / Options / Download. Note also that a blank window or tab is opened which is intended by the web designer to hold the graphic. Expected Results: 1. The second and subsequent times a file type on the "automatic" list is opened, the download window should not appear and the saved action should be executed (i.e. open with ...) 2. The graphic should appear on the blank page and not be processed as a download link at all! Changing the user agent to IE causes Firefox to behave as the page designer expects.

In theory, using Firefox to view this attachment will provoke the problem. If it doesn't, then I will try to find a PHP based BBS to post an attachment on.

(In reply to comment #3) > I apologize for duplicating a report. Honest, I did search first! > > Feel free to close and delete. That's fine. I've already gone ahead and closed the bug. Sometimes its hard to find dupes, we've all been there before. Anyway, you're cc'ed on bug 236541 and you'll get updates on it as things happen.
