User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; sv-SE; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 MultiZilla/1.6.2.0c Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; sv-SE; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 MultiZilla/1.6.2.0c When your nick is in use ChatZilla adds an underscore to it. When the user who's using your with disconnects (or timeouts) ChatZilla keeps the nick with the underscore. It would be great if there was an option to make ChatZilla /nick back to your real nick when it's not in use anylonger! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Join some channel (for example with the nick crashDonkey) 2. Get disconnected 3. Enter the channel again (and get a nick like crashDonkey_) 4. Wait for your old connection to "QUIT Ping Timeout" 5. Look at your nick Actual Results: ChatZilla keeps your old nick with the underscore (crashDonkey_). Expected Results: ChatZilla should have changed your nick back to the nick (crashDonkey_ -> crashDonkey). I'm using ChatZilla version 0.9.63b
I'm sure this is the same on all systems so i changed Hardware and OS -> All.
OS: Windows XP → All
Hardware: PC → All
Summary: Get nick back when not in use anylonger → Get nick back when not in use any longer
That would mean (a) to remember that the _ got added and (b) to check every leaving nick for resemblance with your own one...

AFAIK, the IRC server will not tell you *all* joins / quits (only those in the channels you're in). Meaning that you couldn't check for your original nick to come free just by checking quits / disconnects within the channel. It may be better to have it check for your original nickname to be free every x minutes / seconds, and make the interval a pref. I personally think the notify list interval should be a pref as well, instead of a global variable in client.
Actually, the best approach would be a combination of both. The current implementation in 0.9.66e uses a simple interval of 15 seconds, each time simply attempting to reclaim your nickname. It gives up if the time limit elapses (I think it is 400 seconds), or you disconnect, you get the nickname you want (through changing it yourself, or even picking a different one).
FIXED. This feature will be available in the next ChatZilla release, 0.9.67.
