Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 0.6+ (20040514)
I got Korean truetype fonts for Linux here,
http://chem.skku.ac.kr/~wkpark/project/font. Un fonts and BaekMuk fonts are those.
Although it can be used with the TextEdit, it can't be used with the Mozilla
Thunderbird.
Un Philgy is chosen as a font for composing mail.
However Un Philgy font is not dispayed when I try writing a mail.
( Encoding is EUC-KR and the font is chosen as such. )
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. cf. Details
2.
3.
Actual Results:
cf Details
Summary: Chosen Fonts for mail coposing is not applied → Chosen fonts for mail composing are not applied
Mac OS X 10.3.4 is also reproduced.
Although Japanese fonts(Hiragino family) are chosen by Compose, a character is
not displayed with the font.
AVIARY_1_0_20040515_BRANCH build
version 0.6+ (20040612)
In the case where an English font is chosen, it seems to a problem that there is
nothing.
When a font name is Japanese (or CJK ?), it seems that this problem occurs.

The font handling on Mac OS X is a mess (to say moderately). Gfx:Mac is utterly
outdated (most of the code was written in pre-OS X days, i.e. in the late 1990's
if not mid-1990's and only a little adaptation has been made for OS X)
A couple of days ago, I installed Un-series fonts on 'my' Mac and Safari had no
problem taking advantage of them, but Mozilla .... Well, see bug 120401 and
other bugs mentioned there. I hope the patch there would solve the problem.
Unfortunately, it didn't (it partly solves the problem in that selecting a
Un-font has some effect on the rendering). I wish I had a week-long freetime so
that I can sort out all these problems.
This may as well be duped, but let's keep it open for the moment.

Font name of CJK or non-ASCII cases seem to be same as Bug 206716.
> Bug 206716 : Composer can not use Chinese font.

It seems not to be reflected in AVIARY_1_0_20040515_BRANCH.

Well, I'm nearly sure it's a duplicate of bug 132341, but just in case...
Component: Preferences → Editor: Core
Depends on: 132341
Product: Thunderbird → Browser
Summary: Chosen fonts for mail composing are not applied → Editor ignores font-family setting for some langauges
Version: unspecified → Trunk

Starting from Firefox/Thunderbird 3, gfx uses all font names in any languages. So, we shouldn't have this bug anymore. Feel free to reopen this bug if you still have a problem.
