<caption> ignores <table style="margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto"> and halfes
the margin-left length.

Captions have their own margins. So if you want the caption centered in the
first place you need to give it a auto margin too.
This is by the way done for table with align="center" in html.css

Ah, I see. The W3C is not very clear with the implementation indeed.
However, the alignment of the caption and the alignment of the table are not
independent.
I've created an example2 to illustrate the problem.
