When trying to install new searchplugins from http://mycroft.mozdev.org, I get
the error message http://mycroft.mozdev.org/error.html:
"Builds between 2003-09-14 and 2003-09-27 have a bug which prevents you to
install search plugins from this site. Please refer to Bug 219534. If you are
seing this, then you might want to download a newer version."
This message obviously not to Camino and the mentioned bug is on Firefox.
Couldn't find a similar Camino bug --> opening this one.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to http://mycroft.mozdev.org and select a searchplugin
2. Try to install it.
3.
Actual Results:
Get the abovementioned error message
Expected Results:
The searchplugin should have been installed.
Resolving Invalid. Camino has no Search Sidebar tab, which is what these
plug-ins are intended for.

Don't understand this -- Camino has a search dropdown the same way as Firefox
has and they are installable with Firefox --> Reopening as RFE. Resolve it
again, please, if the search drop-down should not be extensible as Firefox's is.

Plus there was the idea thrown around to have a stand-alone utility to modify
the search plist, which would fill the same need as a web-install method.

Bug 158246 implemented a search list around url-bar keywords. While this is
possible (and Mozilla supports both formats), there is the established Apple
sherlock format, which is used by the Mozilla searchplugins.
I only can imagine that the implementory of bug 158246 didn't know about the
sehrlock format and http://mycroft.mozdev.org. For me, it seems not to be the
best solution, to establish an own format for Camino, while there are hundreds
of search plugins already available at http://mycroft.mozdev.org.
Would it be a good idea to integrate the utility to modify the search engine
plist from within Camino?
Would there be way to add two item to the search drop down, one to manage the
items and one to discover the search string for the web site viewed in the
current page.
If there is some interest in having a UI inside camino to manage the search
string inside camino, let me know and i'll take a shot at it.

There is no searchplugin folder in the Camino.app.
Probably Camino doesn't support searchplugin.
Wouldn't it better to support the Firefox's searchplugin?
Bug 201723 is the way we're going to do this.
