Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608
i installed the undoclosetab extension (recently updated on 6.15.2004) and now
cannot close any tabs, no matter what i do (file menu, control-w, context menu,
the close button on the tab bar) - nothing works to close a tab by any means. i
wish i could figure out how to uninstall it without breaking anything else :(
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. with 1.7-rc3 install undoclosetab extension
2. open some tabs
3. try to close any of them by any means possible
Actual Results:
no tabs would close (had to close whole broswer)
Expected Results:
should have closed the tab(s) i wanted to close
very hard to browse when tabs just accumulate and wont close.

i seemed to have figured out a way to disbale the undoclosetab extension
(and then the tabs become willing to close again on command, like they used to
before installing the extension). i searched for undoclosetab* (with windows
find from the stop -- err -- start menu) and found 2: undoclosetab.js (in
program files...moz..default) and also undoclosetab.jar (in
windows.appdata..moz..profiles..chrome..). when i delete both, my personal
toolbar goes away (*ack* i have 1 mb of bookmarks - cannot allow that to go
away) so i retored both from recycle bin & restarted. then i tried just deleting
undoclosetab.jar (had flipped a coin on which to try first) and *VOILA*!
success, i can now close tabs again! *whew* so it seems that the .jar file is
the bigger culprit (rather than the .js file)
for whatever help this might have been in tracking down where in the extension
the problem lies...

****! ****! when i tried the above, i did not realize at first the PREFBAR
disappeard (along with the undoclosetab bug) when i removed undoclosetab.jar
so i can regain the ability to close tabs if i give up the prefbar and/or
bookmarks personal toolbar; but cannot seem to keep these nice features (toolbat
& prefbar) while keeping the abilty to close tabs...

i finally fixed the bug the only way i could. i NOT ONLY uninstalled mozilla,
but ALSO had to uninstall ALL of my prfile directories *ouch* luckily i had
saved my (1MB+) bookmarks.html file aside beforehand. only after blasting all
my profiles and mozilla off my hard drive, ONLY THEN was i able to re-install
mozilla fresh so that tabs would start closing again.
i get so many tabs open in five minutes that browsing becomes impossible & had
to restart broswer every 5 minutes. not good. the ability to re-open a closed
tab sounds nice; but never being able to close a tab ever again is too high a
price to pay, let alone losing all profiles.
what an approach... never accidentally close a tab unrecoverably again, since
you cannot close it in the first place! *ouch*
Bugs in extensions must be filed with whoever wrote the extension.
I see you discussed this in the Extension Room forum, where another user had the
same problem and was able to uninstall the extension after readint the Uninstall
info.
