Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.9
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.9

WinXP (Home Ed), Outlook XP, Firefox 0.9 (default browser)

Clicking a hyperlink in Outlook opens Firefox correctly, but also opens a
"Locate Link Browser" dialog box.

May be related to "Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 821692" which states

The Locate Link Browser dialog box appears when a Microsoft Internet browser
returns an error value after it is started by Outlook 2003. Netscape 6.2 returns
an error value when it is started from an embedded Web link in an e-mail message.

The dialog does *not* appear when IE is the default browser.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set Firefox (0.9)as the default browser
2. Open Outlook XP.
3. Select a mail with a hyperlink and click.

Actual Results:
Firefox opened to the link reference.

Behind the Firefox window, there was a "Locate Link Browser" dialog box, asking
for the locaqtion of the browser.

If I give the dialog a link to Firefox, I get two instances of Firefox, both
pointing to the correct link.

Expected Results:
No Dialog box

No loss of function, but a major annoyance -- occurs with every invocation.

Nice catch, although I wouldn't have guessed it from the description.

After deleting the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\HTTP\shell\open\ddeexec
(and its subkeys) the problem no longer appears.
