User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.9 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.9 after installing according to instructions (de-install 0.8 first), got errors (could not find component) when a page is loaded from a shortcut, but continues to load anyway. examined "Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / File Types" and looked for the HTM, HTML and URL* types and found that the type specifies in subject (and the one that adds "w Privacy" were changed to go to Firefox, but still had the "Use DDE" box checked (which is a left over from the IE install). I believe that this told Windows to try to find the "IExplore" entry in firefox, which it couldn't since its only in MSIE. Once I unchecked "Use DDE" in both of them, all was well with the world. may also be a problem in the other products (Mozilla) or other file types, but only saw it in this one and "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol w Privacy" Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. would have to try to find a version of MSIE that puts the "Use DDE" stuff into the file types and then reinstall it and then reinstall Firefox. it would take much longer for me to do that than it would take to verify whether "Use DDE" is unchecked in *all* file types, so i didn't bother. if you cannot reproduce, email me and i will try to set up a definitive test case. 2. 3. Expected Results: uncheck the "Use DDE" box under the file types that are moved to Firefox (actually, you would set a variable that causes the checkbox to be unchecked, but you know what i mean)
note: the error message does not appear when i use a shortcut to an address that ends in .htm or .html - that would have triggered the "HTM" or "HTML" file type, which did not have "Use DDE" checked on my system. It only happens when i use a shortcut to a default page ... as in "http://www.slashdot.org/", which triggers that "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol" file type, which on my system DID have "Use DDE" checked and "IExplore", etc in the DDE drop down section.
I am not completely sure, but I think this bug is a duplicate of Bug 246078
