If I attempt to download the Apple QuickTime installer from the url submitted
(ie http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ ), i get a completely bunged-up
partial display of a congratulatory page from Apple thanking me profusely for
downloading the software and yet the installer never starts downloading.

the download manager never starts, i never see any indication of a pop-up being
blocked, and most importantly, i never get the installer. as much as i hate
quicktime, it's a necessary evil. perhaps firefox is preventing me from
corrupting my system? 8)

see the following url for a screenshot of the bunged display.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
2. select the "Win98/ME/2000/XP" radio button, uncheck the "apple wants to send
you spam!" buttons, and click the "Download QuickTime Button" (hell, it doesn't
seem to matter whether i chose the iTunes bundle for Windows or the standalone
QT Installer -- still get the same results)
3. you will then see PART of an apple congratulatory web page ( go to
http://home.earthlink.net/~deathboy2000/ff-apple-qt-screenshot.jpg to see this)
but no installer.

Expected Results:

allowed me to download the installer, of course!
I can confirm this.

The iframe is not fully shown because height="100%" only works in quirks mode.
For strict mode, Apple needs to add a little bit more CSS. In fact, if I add
body {height: 100%;} and html {height: 100%;}, the iframe stretches out.
http://www.quirksmode.org/css/100percheight.html

And I would, tentatively, guess that that the object tag that starts the
download isn't working because it's an invalid clsid.
I believe the problem is with Apple. Cannot download the stand-alone version of
6.5.2. But I am surprised Mozilla is so slow to react.

It is. In this context, this bug should be a Tech Evangelism bug.

Is this still true? I can't reproduce this.

Summary: cannot download quicktime installer -- download manager never comes up, file never downloads → apple.com - cannot download quicktime installer -- download manager never comes up, file never downloads
I can't reproduce anymore either. Looks like the website redesign fixed it.
doesn't work with FF 1.5.0.12 on XP: QT updater calls Apple's QT download page but the actual dwnld link/button doesn't appear; spent a few mins trying to figure out what Apple wants me to do to get there, but the trick is that it works in IE but not in FF. IE had high sec/priv policy (no cookies, no sw install allowed from that site, ~like FF.
It's not at all clear to me that comment 7 is the same thing as the original bug; paolo, please file a new bug if this is still broken in Firefox for you.

I'm going to resolve this FIXED based on comment 5 and 6.
