User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 Some of my bookmarks have an apostrophe (') in their name. The apostrophe appears in the Bookmarks menu as "&amp#39;". It looks like hell and I'm surprised that it isn't a frequently-reported bug. I think the problem is a double-conversion of the apostrophe, first to ' (ok), then to '. The & is being inappropriately converted to an entity constant (is that the right term?) as if it is a literal "&", when it is actually part of the special character code "'". I can fix the problem by exporting the bookmarks to a file, replacing all instances of "'" with "'", and re-importing the bookmarks with Manage Bookmarks. The fix persists for a while, then one day I start Mozilla and find my bookmarks are corrupted with that ugly "&amp#39" error again. I have not so far determined what triggers the change. One trigger for this corruption, (I don't think it's the only one) is to run a version 1.8 nightly build and then run version 1.6. The fix is simple: never convert the "&" character to "&" in a string where "&" is followed by "#", an integer, and then ":". Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
have a look at Bug 245758 Persisting bookmarks file converts ' to ' in bookmark title (apostrophe, lsquo, entity)

See the bug mentioned in comment 1, which was a regression in some 1.8a nigthly builds. With current nightlies or 1.7.1 you don't have the problems anymore (but you have to correct the "'" manually). Please resolve this bug as duplicate of Bug 245758 and upgrade to newer builds/releases.
