User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040626 Firefox/0.9.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040626 Firefox/0.9.1 I downloaded Firefox for the first time today and was installing it when it hung while on the step importing History. I restarted Firefox again and attempted to import bookmarks from Internet Explorer (latest version) and was unable to import any bookmarks. I when through the steps and nothing was imported. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Run install program 2.When asked tell the system to import from Internet Explorer 3.Hangs Actual Results: Nothing Expected Results: Imported settings, bookmarks, etc and contnue
I just experienced the same problem, doing a fresh-clean-install (my first) of Firefox/0.9.1 under Win98SE. When it got to the Import phase, I left it on the default (first) selection of "import from (similar old stuff)" (even though I have none such) and proceeded. The computer then seemed to hang forever on the next window, and the three buttons were ghosted. Nothing I could do would go back, forward, or cancel, I could not close, and had to kill the task. I then re-did the install from the beginning (probably unnecessary -- Firefox was already installed?) and this time the Import phase never happened, things turned out fine. What I learned: * If you don't have anything to Import, don't ask it to try! * Maybe I did not actually have to re-install, just re-start Firefox. -k
Apparently the same thing. Installed firefoxsetup-0.9.2.exe (downloaded today) as localadmin on windows2000 professional 350mhz 328mbyte. Options: Developer tools+Quality feedback agent Import firefox settings Import Wizard window appears. It says "Importing..." "The following are currently being imported" (no further text). Hangs there for at least 5 minutes. Apparently no CPU usage and no disk usage. Import Wizard window closed by clicking x -icon and remainder of installation springs into life, apparently unharmed.
Also happens with FireFox 1.0PR1.
Also happens with: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8a5) Gecko/20041027 Firefox/0.9.1+ on Fedora Core 2.
I had similar experience following a clean install of Firefox today. When trying to import bookmarks, etc. the programme hung and had to be closed. I'm using Windows 2000 Pro.

Summary: Installer hung while importing history → Application hung while importing history
this is two versions old with no comment or dupe in almost 4 years. I've imported from IE several times in the last few years, nothing big though. => WFM feel free to comment if you see otherwise.
