File > Save Page As can result in a gibberish file. Re-loading the saved file, I
see a page filled with special and foreign characters, like:
"ì]ysÛ8²ÿ;úNMl×Z¢|(—,åÉGïÚ‰ÊR&;¯Rå‚HH☸<5x01‡7æ#Ò:ÀÂê±i%vdÝÚ" and so on.
I can't predict which URLs will produce this result, but one example is the page
given in the URL field above.
Checking about:config, I found browser.download.save_converter_index was set to
1 (don't know how it got that way). I reset it to default (0). File saves now
seem ok (only tested on the example given in the URL field). Does this
about:config setting correspond to any option available in the GUI? Even if this
is a legitimate character set option, its side effect might be worth a mention
in the Readme.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Navigate to an article on a newspaper web site. e.g. www.globeandmail.com
2.Go File > Save Page As (HTML only).
3.Load saved page into browser.
Actual Results:
Often the page is saved properly, sometimes it is gibberish.
Expected Results:
Saved HTML page should display properly.

> Does this about:config setting correspond to any option available in the GUI?
yes. it's the choice you make in the dropdown of "save page", i.e. "web page,
html only" or "web page, complete" or "text file"
at a wild guess, that page is saved but content-encoding isn't undone... (the
page in the URL field is indeed sent with Content-Encoding: gzip)
guess that makes it a file handling problem

I see this also on LInux 2004091107. I'm sure this is a dupe but can't seem to
find a non-fixed bug.
You can use the command `gzcat foo.html > bar.html` to get your saved file.
Summary: Save Page As sometimes saves gibberish → Save Page As sometimes saves as gzip

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
