Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040616

Although mozilla's embedded editor doesn't write emphasis tags for italics, it
refuses to manipulate them as well to at least undo the emphasis (italics).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to http://www.kevinroth.com/rte/demo.htm
2. Highlight preloaded word
3. Click the I (italics) button

Actual Results:
Italics cannot be discarded if using emphasis tags.

Expected Results:
Should be able to discard italics if using the emphasis tags.
I see this too on LInux 2004091107
I did notice STRONG/bold and I/italics works fine.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Um, let me see, yup this is still a bug. Just because it's old, it doesn't mean
it's fixed. Tested with fckeditor (fckeditor.net) and it still can't manipulate
emphasis tags (build 20050908 Firefox 1.5 Beta and 20050910 Seamonkey 1.0a).

I just tested on Firefox 1.5 (build 20051111) and it is still broken. I suppose the only workaround for this since it seems unlikely this bug will ever get fixed would be to make the editors do a search for em tags and replace them with i tags so Gecko browsers would be able to manipulate the italics text.
