..but does NOT crash when it views the identical page (mirrored) from my hard drive. This was as of 12:36 AM EDT on 1/26/2000. The page is attached to this bug. Details: 1) When the page is viewed from the hard drive, the "slashboxes" are already rendered the first time the page is viewable. When loaded through the network, the slashboxes are NOT rendered, and the content has been sized without the slashboxes being rendered. All the other content is viewable, but the page is still being loaded. The slashboxes do not appear before the browser crashes. 2) The debug text does not display any unusual messages before the crash, and the browser does not dump core upon crashing. The final messages before the crash are: WEBSHELL+ = 8 FindShortcut: in='http://www.slashdot.org' out='null' title string = [Slashdot:News for Nerds. Stuff that Matters. - Mozilla] and then the command prompt appears right after the browser windows disappear. 3) Slashdot did not make the same browser crash before 10 PM. The first time I loaded slashdot and it crashed was around 11:30 am. This is probably a rare timing bug or something... Places to start looking: Incremental reflow, I guess.

viewing the attachment leads to a consistant crash. As of 3 am EDT, http://www.sklashdot.org still crashes build 2000012609 in linux.
Priority: P3 → P1
Adding "crash" keyword to all known open crasher bugs.

Linux build 2000012813 does NOT crash when viewing the attached page. Instead, it renders it incorrectly (it only displays the slashboxes and menu links. it does not show the stories.) This is now almost definately a layout bug involving reflow. I believe that the crash back in 12609 was also caused by reflow because it would display all the stories and then crash before displaying the slashboxes. Now it displays the stories, then the stories disappear, and then the slashboxes appear.

I forgot to add that the live slashdot page (the page currently at www.slashdot.org) is rendered perfectly by 2000012813.

There definitely are some new issues with layout of nested tables pages since M13; there is probably an open bug this could be DUP'd on.
We are working on this issue. Especially this site. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 17325 ***
