I get the same bug on Linux w/ both Firefox 0.9.1 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040626 Firefox/0.9.1) and Mozilla 1.7.2 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040803). This doesn't appear to be bug 130075 as changing the margins doesn't have any effect - the header and footer never appear. I'll try again later this week with either Firefox 1.0PR or Mozilla 1.7.3

Hey, when you open the File -> Print... dialog, is there a "Properties" button next to your printer? If so, open it and look for "Gap from edge of paper to margin" Adjust those to larger numbers till the printer actually prints them. Looks like a case of a) bad firefox defaults or b) bad printer info if it imports those numbers from somewhere else. This fixed my problem which sounds identical for yours! I suggest this bug be closed, unless the Firefox defaults need to be changed, in which case we should probably move to a new bug report anyhow.

Thanks Chuck, increasing it from the default 0.08 to 0.20 inches fixed the problem. I had the same problem with Mozilla 1.7.2 so it's not specific to Firefox. I did a search and can't find an existing bug for the default gap setting so I'm opening up a new one. Thanks again for your help.

I'm glad I found this bug report. It is still the case in released 1.0. Fortunately, it appears that the properties are at least somewhat "sticky". I set them and printed a page, then exited Firefox, then re-started Firefox and the settings were as I had last set them. I am hopeful that they are *very* sticky, as the mmy father will *not* be able to figure out how to change them if they become "un-stuck". Is there a config file where these values are stored? I could put together a cron job to make sure they are set right. If the changed falues are not sticky, I would vote to increase the Severity of this bug. One remaining area I find confusing is the "File | Page Setup" popup, on the "Margins & Header/Footer" tab. How do the Margins one might have set there interact with the "Gap from edge of paper to Margin (inches) settings on the "Printer Properties" popup? I had 0.5 inches all around on the former, but started out with something like 0.04 on the latter. I changed those to 0.2, which appears to be enough. However, the Page Setup margins are still showing 0.5.
