It would be very nice to be able to set up filters that change the appearance of the message in the mail window. Examples: Starts with "Read: " - use "read" icon Message flagged - display in red Message is suspected spam - use italics These would all be user-defined in the Message Filters... window.
OS: Windows 2000 → All
Displaying in color already is available: use the filter to label a message, which colors the message's entry in the thread pane.

Summary: Add mail filters that color title or change message icon → Add mail filters to apply arbitrarily style (font, color, icon) to message in thread pane
FWIW, I don't see a way to apply a filter to "Junk"-flagged messages since it's not in the header. Also, setting a filter makes some type of permanent change; I'm thinking more of dynamic rules that change whenever a message changes. For example, if you mark a message as Junk, it should change color based on the rule.

Not going to do this. It's available though, in a different form as described above.

With "labels" also called "tags" today. You create a Tag, assign it a color and apply to matching messages (e.g. via a filter run on the folder).
