Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040822 Firefox/0.9.1+ When i open the URL specified above and the bookmark sidebar is open i can't add a new bookmark or folder over the context menu. The dialog doesn't appear. After switching to another tab and back all works fine. Reloading the page results in the same behavior as before.
I tested more deeply and checked that the whole context menu isn't working and not only new bookmark or folder.
Summary: New bookmark or folder in sidebar not working when opened a website. → Context menu in sidebar not working when opening specified website.
this may be the same thing as bug 256679

(In reply to comment #1) > I tested more deeply and checked that the whole context menu isn't working and > not only new bookmark or folder. in Firefox 1.0PR under WinXP, i find that sometimes the bookmarks context menu is unresponsive on its own, if the item being right-clicked is NOT left-clicked first steps to reproduce: 1.- have at least a bookmark (bkm) 2.- left-click on any bkm (opening it. middle clicking bkm to open a tab works the same as if this step was missed) 3.- right-click any bkm and attempt any context operation (should work) 3.- right-click any bkm and attempt any context operation (doesn't work) note: you can do all steps on the same bookmark. Menu seems to work if activated right after clicking on any bookmark sidebar item, folders and separators included.
even more testing, found the following: step 2 in my previous post includes not only separators and folders, but empty spaces and scrollbar too! (not the search field, text or the sidebar title) Considering that all of this seems to be in a frame (?) i could guess it's a focus issue. That is, a quick fix would be making the right-click grab focus before displaying the menu.
We'll live without this fix for 1.0. Also not a bookmarks bug -- punting to general, since I've no idea where it should go.

Obviously I don't make the decisions, and I'm not a C++ guy so I can't really help, but from a product management perspective seems to me for a "polished" 1.0 product you'd want to hide the context menu on the sidebar if it doesn't work. My two cents (not much more!). Course, it might be easier just to fix it, I have no idea. I know about it, so I can subsist on opening a new tab or window for the links there. Others though ... Flipside, I guess it's a pretty obscure feature anyway.
I just want to refresh this bug with information that 1.0.3 still has this bug.
This bug does not appear with Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050421 Firefox/1.0.3 (Debian package 1.0.3-2)
But it´s still there under WinXP and Firefox 1.0.3
