I first observed this when I upgraded from moz 1.3.1 to moz 1.7 RTM.
It is also present in 1.8a3
Display the mail pane that lists the mail messages in a folder.
Reduce the size of some of the right-most column headings until the heading
is changed to an ellipsis. Then observe that the ellipsis is displayed in
the box at the top of the wrong column. It is displayed well to the left of
the box where it should be displayed. If you have multiple columns whose
headings are (or, should be) ellipses, the ellipses may be displayed in
seemingly random column headings.
100% reproducible on multiple machines, both with Win2K and WinXP, and
different display hardware. (IOW, I don't think this is a bug in a
display driver for a particular graphics card.)
I will attach a snapshot showing the problem on my win2k box.

Notice the ellipsis that appear at the right side of the Date column heading,
and at the left side of the Lines column heading. It stradles two column
headings. It actually belongs in the heading of the column to the right of
the Lines column.
The two right-most columns are "Unread" and "Total".
