did you download the file and install or install directly from Internet explorer ?
It was downloaded and then installed. Thunderbird has also showed the same
problem. This is XP Version 2002 SP1, BTW.

remove any Firefox directory
save the installerfile to C:/ i/o a temp directory
try again
Sorry, what do you mean by "i/o a temp directory"?
I saved it to C:\ and created a Temp directory and tried to install to that -
no joy.

I can't speak for XP but I know win2k has some vague issues if you save to
documents and setting/etc.
1.Go to your profile directory and delete the Mozilla entry
2.In IE clear your cache and download FF0.9.3.again
3.Go to windows update and see if you need new graphical drivers (may be an issue)
4.Install graphical drivers, if you have done that you MUST reboot
5.restart windows
6. Install Firefox without changing directories, just let it do the suggested
installation.
7. If that doesn't work you may have a serious problem with your computer.
well over 100.000 people installed FF0.9.3 without your problem.
I've tried all your suggestions, with no success.
I agree that this is probably related to something being screwed up in a
fairly unique way on this particular machine (it's someone else's and I know
not a lot about windows).
For reference, though, I don't seem to have been the only one encountering the
problem:
