User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3 When I attempt to change which application handles a certain file type, I am unable to do so, because any items that do not happen to be in my user folder are un-selectable. However, I can pick even a .gif file to handle a certain file type, as long as it resides in my user directory. This might be an OSX-specific issue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Prefences, view Downloads Tab 2. Select any item in the "File Types" list 3. Click "Choose Application" 4. You will be unable to choose any files that do not reside in your user directory. Actual Results: As a result, I am unable to choose any applications in my /Applications folder to handle files. Expected Results: I should be able to choose an application to open a certain file type, independant of whether it's in my user folder or not, as long as the file is +x (chmod). Again, this problem might be specific to the OSX build. I am marking it "major" as proper file-type handling is a significant part of the browsing experience.
Can you test this in a nightly? There have been some good Mac-specific fixes in nightly builds.
I downloaded and ran this build: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2004-09-08-09-0.9/Firefox-mac.dmg.gz The problem is not yet resolved in that build.
It will be fixed in bug 225574 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 225574 ***
