I'm rather new to the mac so please forgive me if I've overlooked the obvious.
I have looked through the apple java developer docs and googled around high and
low to see where the convention of holding down the LEFT mouse button to popup
the contextual menu might have come from. None of the standard Mac apps that I
tried seem to do this. The convention on a Mac for popping up a context menu is
to hold down the control key while left left clicking (which happens to be
mapped to a right mouse button click by default for the "normal" right click for
context menu). There is no mention of *holding down* the right mouse button to
popup the context menu.

There seems to be nothing from apple or java to support this convention. Why
does Mozilla do this? Unless there is some good reason, this seems to be an
annoying bug that plagues Mozilla on the Mac.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. hold down the right mouse button almost anywhere in Mozilla on the mac
(including the little window I am using to enter this).
2.
3.

Actual Results:
The context menu popped up

Expected Results:
A normal left button mouse click
Netscape was the first applciation to use this (in version 1.0 ?). The reason is
that Mac mouse has only 1 button (yeah, I know that you buy other ones), but not
every Mac keyboard has a ctrl button.

Later, Apple implement the ctrl-click to replace the right-click, but Netscape
didn't use that. When Mozilla started, they implemented both ctrl-click (new
convention) and click-and-hold (backwards compatibility). Bug 107433 wants to
remove this feature.
