User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040902 Firefox/1.0 PR (NOT FINAL)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040902 Firefox/1.0 PR (NOT FINAL)
In IE, the first time a popup is blocked and the new yellow 'notification bar'
is triggered, there is an alert explaining what has just happened. Firefox used
to have something like this for its popup blocking, but the functionality was
evidently lost when the new popup notication scheme went into effect...
Something similar to IE's method should now be used, as it is VERY easy to not
notice the bar unless you are purposefully looking for it.
Similar individual alerts should probably be implemented for plugins, et cetera
(they are even harder to notice).
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.go to cnn.com
2.you will recieve the new popup notification at the top of the screen
3.were you looking for news? if you were, chances are *quite* likely your eyes
were looking down on the page, and you completely missed subtle chreme-colored
alert at the top.
Actual Results:
There was no notification
Expected Results:
There should have been a notification(especially if this was my first time
running firefox), like there used to be for the old popup blocking scheme

perhaps there is a more relevant bug: the current popup handling where a menu
pops up on left click is very bad/annoying ui.

While that too is a bug (that I personally agree needs to be fixed, BTW) I think
this is a different issue altogether. This, for all practical purposes, is a
regression of a previous feature. Also, other browser(s) with similar
alert-types have a dialogue explaining what's happening. Since our behavior
*is*, what amounts to some as a counter-intuitive left-click, then that just
reinforces IMHO the need for some sort of explanitory dialoge altert-box
(possibly re-appearing, with checkbox option to make it shut up - a la IE.)

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
