The browser does not seem to remember the authorization, when
going to other directories (higher or lower) on the same site.
All other browsers ask the userid and password only once per site/realm,
not once per directory!

This should have been fixed long ago. [e-mail] which version of Mozilla
are you using?  Reassign to gagan.

Found similar problem on MacOS 8.5 Mozilla M13 Release.  In this instance, both

moving through subdirectories and across identically-named realms on the same

server both created un/pw prompt.  Secondarily, hitting "cancel" caused the

browser to all but stop working.  No other URIs could be requested or displayed.

I can confirm that this problem occurs on both the mac M13 and ppc-linux-gnu M13
releases of Mozilla.  Any file within the realm at all, including images
embedded in an already authenticated HTML page cause the authentication dialog
to pop up.  Surely this qualifies as a platform=all bug?

I have Win NT 4 and M14 and operating inside a company firewall all requests 
external to company go via a proxy server which requires authentication...

Whenever I access a site that goes via the proxy server a username password 
dialog appears for every request. When accessing pages with multiple objects 
(pictures etc...) the dialog will appear multiple times for a single page.

With other browsers I will only see a dialog for the proxy once per session. 
Username and password are remembered between sessions if desired in which case 
the dialog pops up with the username and password pre-entered for a new session.

In some cases the username and password are remembered (Save these values seems 
to work). This appears to be the case only when I return to a page. ie. The 
username and password remembered appears to be linked to the combination of 
proxy server _and_ resource being accessed.
