User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040911 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040911 Firefox/0.10 It appears that on all platforms, one must be root (or "administrator" on MS Windows) to install/uninstall a search plugin (like adding/removing the IMDB search plugin). This is bad. One should be able to do this so long as one can write to their profile. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Mozilla Firefox 1.0RC. 2.Try to install a search plugin (like the IMDB one). 3.If you can't write to the application dir, watch it fail. Otherwise it works. Actual Results: When I'm able to write to the app dir, it works. Otherwise it fails. Expected Results: Adding the search plugin should always work because it should only modify what's in the user's profile.
This could be made moot when searchplugins gets moved to the profile directory in bug 232638.
