Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10
If I disable Java support in Firefox, my plugins disappear from the Plug-ins
window in the "Downloads" preferences. If this happens, then I cannot view mpeg
files embedded (using QuickTime) in the browser (for example, if I click on a
link that leads directly to a .mpg file). I didn't test to see if Acrobat
Reader would work embedded or anything else yet, but I'm sure the results would
be the same. Instead of opening the file in the browser, the links would try to
download the file.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new profile and start up firefox using that profile
2. Go to Tools, Options, click "Downloads" click "Plug-Ins", observe that the
list is populated with plug-ins.
3. Click Cancel to close the plugin window
4. Click "Web Features", uncheck the box next to "Enable Java"
5. Click OK, completely exit Firefox and restart it
6. Go to Tools, Options, click "Downloads" and click "Plug-Ins", observe that
the plugins have all disappeared.
Actual Results:
Plug-Ins in the "Plug-Ins" window all disappeared. When I wanted to view media
files embedded in the browser (mpeg), Firefox would start downloading it instead
(using the Download Manager).
Expected Results:
Plug-Ins should not disappear when disabling Java support. Following links to
mpeg files should load embedded in the browser.
Tested on:
(both machines have same version of Firefox)
Windows XP Pro SP2
QuickTime 6.5?
AcrobatReader
WMP 10
Windows 2000 SP4
QuickTime 6.5.1
AcrobatReader
WMP 9
Both machines were tested on a new profile with all the default settings and no
extensions loaded.

I found a workaround:
When you see that the plugins list in Tools,Options,Downloads,Plug-Ins is empty,
point Firefox to about:plugins, then look at the Plug-Ins window again and it
will be populated.
Both machines I tested have Java 1.4.2, but the XP SP2 machine has 1.4.2_05
while the 2000 SP4 machine has 1.4.2_04.
