User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040914 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040914 Firefox/0.10 Live bookmarks do not show right justified when there are Hebrew characters. It should be easy to spot in sites with Hebrew encoding (such as http://www.whatsup.org.il - windows-1255) and more complicated in sites that use unicode (e.g. http://www.linmagazine.co.il - utf-8) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to http://www.whatsup.org.il 2. Add a live bookmark 3. View the links Another example: http://www.linmagazine.co.il Actual Results: Live bookmark links are left justified Expected Results: Links should be right justified

to be more accurate, hebrew titles should have direction Right to Left, and not just Right Justified.

Confirmed. If users of other RTL languages can reproduce this, please report. Prog.

Summary: Hebrew (or RTL) live bookmarks are not right-justified → Hebrew Live Bookmarks should be Right-to-Left
Do normal bookmarks get correctly justified to the right?

no, bookmark titles get the directionality of the chrome, regardless of the language they are at.
(In reply to comment #4) > no, bookmark titles get the directionality of the chrome, regardless of the > language they are at. Ok; in that case, we can't do anything about this before 1.0 -- we have no way of selectively right-justifying bookmarks that are in RTL languages (assuming we can even detect that they're in a RTL language reliably).

Er, not just right-justifying, but right-justifying and RTL as well, I mean.

i think we have to consider if we really want to do this. i live quite happily with all my bookmarks, both hebrew and english, with the same directionality. having some bookmarks aligned right and some left doesn't look very aesthetic to me.

(In reply to comment #5) > we have no way of selectively right-justifying bookmarks that are in RTL > languages (assuming we can even detect that they're in a RTL language > reliably). Bug 218823 suggests a way to choose the direction automatically. (In reply to comment #7) > having some bookmarks aligned right and some left doesn't look very aesthetic to me. You may have a point about alignment, but I'm sure you'll agree that having the word order messed up due to wrong directionality is always bad. Prog.

This is another case where the "direction: auto" property which I suggested [1] as an addition to CSS would be useful. [1] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-style/2004May/0359.html

Can't we use 'start' as value or '-moz-start'?

Also when i copy a hebrew, RTL string and paste it into a form rendered by firefox the sting gets reversed. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040918 Firefox/0.10

The http://www.globes.co.il website tries to declare in its feed that the direction should be RTL, but Firefox ignores that. Feed URL: http://www.globes.co.il/webservice/rss/rssfeeder.asmx/FeederNode?iID=585 The subjects are enclosed inside a <span dir="rtl"></span> HTML tags. Could parsing those HTML tags be a viable solution to the text direction in Live Bookmarks (and ordinary Bookmarks for that matter)?

This issue is still exists in 3.1b3, and make it complicated to view Arabic and Hebrew titles on English version of Firefox (or any other LTR language), and viewing English titles on Arabic/Hebrew Firefox. Ehsan - I am CCing you because you may be interested in this kind of bugs. What do you say?
