The only web browser that supports this behavior is OmniWeb 5. For an example

This should definitely be optional because the thumbnails take more space. I
understand that this is an extreme request.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
In a new Firefox web browser window, pull the File menu down to New Tab.

Actual Results:
Each tab shows the website favicon and name.

Expected Results:
Each tab should show a thumbnail of the webpage it contains.
Similar to bug 109196.

Favicons are the de-facto way to visually identify tabs, and different methods to do so are a great example of features that can be implemented by add-ons. This is covered with different implementations by add-ons like https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-preview/ , https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/?src=ss , etc.
