I have two IMAP accounts, created recently. Both have the following lines in
prefs.js, created by account wizard:
user_pref("mail.server.server10.namespace.other_users", "");
user_pref("mail.server.server10.namespace.personal", "");
user_pref("mail.server.server10.namespace.public", "");
When I try to delete a message on one of these account (whther set to "mark as
deleted" or "move to trash"), all I get is a message in the console saying "tree
is valid". IMAP log shows no activity. When I delete the lines above from
prefs.js, it works fine.
Linux build 2000.02.05.08
Richard, what kind of servers were you testing with? Cyrus & UW or others?
Thanks,

It was a Novonyx IMAP4 Server. No Cyrus ones (I think: none of them have the
Trash folder be a subfolder of Inbox).
If I am correct the server you're running are the same as the one you mentioned
in Bug 26735. You may not be able to delete/move/copy messages around since they
are readonly mailbox. I need to check witht the spec more carefully. Richard,
can you attach the imap log from this one. Thanks much.

You are rught: it is the same server with the read-only mailbox. Here's the
funny thing though: if the namespace prefs are removed from prefs.js, the
mailboxes are READ-WRITE. I'm attaching my imap log. What I did was this: set
up two accounts for the same server with same ID/password. Select Inbox, then
Trash on the first account, then select Inbox and Trash on the second. The
second server has the namespace prefs, the first one doesn't. You can test this
yourself: host: mail.myrealbox.com, ID: mozilla, password: mozilla.
The offending prefs lines are written whenever you open the advanced settings
dialog in the account manager for that account.

Richard, I have tested against mail.myrealbox.com using the account you have set
up. Thanks as always.
Here are some findings regarding this bug:
1) The server seems a pretty poor implemented server. Their rename seems case
insensitive. The previous created Trash folder is all upper case (although
seamonkey display it as "Trash" this seems like a bug to me). I tried to rename
it from "TRASH" to "Trash" using telnet but failed.
2) After I deleted the previous created Trash folders, "TRASH" and " Trash" and
let seamonkey create one and set the delete mode as move to the trash folder. I
was able to delete the message.
3) The server doesn't implement namespace as far as I can tell from the
capability returns, so I didn't bother to set any namespaces.
4) The server doesn't implement uidplus extension either. So undo delete
messages does not work well with this server. The current implementation of the
seamonkey mailnews undo/redo only works with servers supporting uidplus feature.
We might want to log a bug regarding this.
Should we mark this bug worksforme? Thanks,

1. Why is it that it makes a difference whether prefs.js contains lines like
user_pref("mail.server.server10.namespace.public", "");
or no namespace prefs at all when it comes to READ-WRITE vs. READ-ONLY?
Shouldn't these work the same?
2. Should there be an error message when you try to change something on a
mailbox set to READ-ONLY?

I don't think it makes a difference. I checked in a fix a while back not paying
attention to empty public and others namespace.

If the trash folder is a read-only folder and the delete mode is move to the
trash folder then delete message should result in an error message.
2. Should there be an error message when you try to change something on a
mailbox set to READ-ONLY?
Yes, it should. We should have a error message from the server.
I shall make sure we handle all the above are working before I close down this
bug.

Richard, is this still a problem?

This seems to work now. Probably the server's fault.
