User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041120 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041120 Firefox/1.0

When I try to save files to a read-only filesystem (by mistake), it doesn't work
(obviously). However, instead of telling me something like "couldn't save: read
only filesystem" or "error saving file", nothing happens when I click save.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right-click a file and click "save link as..."
2. move to a read-only filesystem
3. click save

Actual Results:
Nothing. The save button went down and came back up. The save dialog was still
there, and no error message was given.

Expected Results:
Complained. An error message like "Could not save: read only filesystem", or
simply "Error saving file" would be helpful.
Somehow related to Bug 159144? I know, that's a Mozilla Application Suite bug, but maybe this has something to do with the Core?

I can confirm that this bug still exists in Firefox 2.0.0.3. There should definitely be an error message like the orginal poster proposed.
bug 109377 may also be distantly related.

WFM in Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a5pre) Gecko/20070531 Minefield/3.0a5pre - I get a "could not be saved" error.
I suspect this was fixed on trunk.
