Using 2000-02-09-08m14 commercial builds on linux rh6.0, NT 4.0 and Mac OS 9.0
When I checkmark "save this value" in a mail account's login dialog, it doesn't
hook into the pref "Save password" in the Account Setup/Server panel for that
same account. This makes it confusing to figure out how to turn it on/off.
1. Launch and go to a mail account (IMAP or POP). Select Inbox and Get Msg.
2. When password dialog (the mail server login dialog, not a Master Password
oriented dialog) displays, type the account's mail password and click/checkmark
the "save this value" checkbox.
Click OK to login --> proceeds to login and get mail.
3. Edit|Account Setup.
Select the account's Server panel and notice the "save password" field is
left unchecked/disabled.
Actual result: Mail password dialog save password field doesn't tie in to the
save password pref for that account in the account manager dialog.
Expected result: Saving password value through mail password/login dialog
should reflect in save password field for account manager dialog.

OK using 2000-02-14-09m14 mozilla build on linux rh6.0
OK using 2000-02-14-08m14 commercial build on NT 4.0
No mac build available yet today.
This is not working properly on Mac using 2000-02-15-09m14 commercial build, Mac
OS 9.0:
When I checkmark the "Save this value" indeed the account settings UI pref is
checkmarked/enabled. This is not preserved through exit. Upon exit and
relaunch I am prompted for password and the account setting UI is no longer
enabled.
Note: I am not using a master password.
Retested on NT 4.0 using 2000-02-15-09m14 commercial build. OK and also through
exit. Tried POP and IMAP.
Retested on linux rh6.0 using 2000-02-15-09m14mozilla build. OK and also through
exit. Tried POP and IMAP
More verification info:
I did this using newly migrated profiles and new profiles (all profiles migrated
or created using feb15th builds).
I also did this for mail accounts only, since remembering user/password for nntp
authentication will be done only through wallet (per alecf).
On the mac, it appears engaging Save Password through Account Settings UI is
broken, won't take at all. Alec, let me know if you need that logged as a
separate bug.

no, this bug is the right place
I knew about the stickyness, but forgot to add it to the bug. sspitzer and I
have a good solution so I'll just fix this bug right.

Mass moving M16 to M17 - look for nsbeta2 before anything else.

Per Phil -- This is a policy issue where we need to rectify the current behavior
with 4.x based UI. Not a stopper.
