Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
To Whom it May Concern:
Whenever I log onto www.bbc.co.uk and then listen to :listen live :to their
various radio stations, BBC radio player - radio on demand comes on. I am able
to listen to the radio program, however, if I try to pause the program, I am
unable to. This feature works on IE 6.0. If I am using IE, the narrow bar
under the pause/play bar is displayed and indicates "Playing xx bps and the
time elapsed of the program since I logged on" This is a very convienent
feature because it allows me to pause the program if I must leave my PC and then
resume when I return. Other than this I find Firefox most convient. However,
since I spend more than 50% of my time listening to BBC - this can be annoying.
I thought the problem might have been with Real One Player or the BBC itself,
however, when I use IE 6.0 this problem is non-existant. I am far from a techi
- I am not sure this problem is not of my own making. Since, the possibility
exists that it could be on your end, I figure I would contact you on this matter.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration on this matter.
Most sincerely,
Bob Crane
(convinced to switch to you by my son - who is more informed than I )
Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
just to be able to use the pause feature

This is a bug in the HTML of the BBC radio player - it uses an HTML pause button
to run some javascript to pause the player rather than displaying the reaplayer
GUI. It is failing in firefox with:
Error: document.RP.GetPlayState is not a function
Source File: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/javascript/javascript_new_top2.js
Line: 177
I have submitted this to the BBC web team's feedback page.

Not really relevant to Bugzilla but you can workaround this and get better
functionality as follows:
Open the link of the program you want to listen to in a new tab.
View the source and find the line giving the real source e.g.
<embed src="http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/rpms/cotw_thu.rpm" ...
Copy out the url: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/rpms/cotw_thu.rpm
and open it in Firefox.
You will then get a strange looking page with working player controls including
a position slider.
I think the BBC are trying to be "generic" and hide the fact that they are using
RealPlayer rather than WindowsMedia, but are just making life difficult.

>Easy workaround. Disable Javascript! The pause button and progress counter then
appear.
