I have my private e-mails account set up for reading where I work. It would be
nice to secure my mail accounts by password, so that my colleagues at work
"don't happen" to read my private e-mails when they use my computer.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Still doesn't work.
I'm forced to use another program, like OE.
This problem was noted by Smart Computing several months ago after I reported it
here.
VERIZON requires authorization on each email id.
Thunderbird only allow one authorization for all ids.
For Johnny one-notes, Thunderbird is great.
So, how about catching up with OE.
Please, I would like to use severl ids, each with its own authorization.
If by ID, you mean different user names, Thunderbird allows you to have multiple
accounts with the same host name and different user names, and allows different
authorizations for each account. So I don't understand your comment at all.

What I meant when posting this supposal for update is:
I have two accounts on my computer at work: One is private and one is for work.
When I am on vacation my computer is sometimes used by fellow workers. It would
be nice to have a possibility to shut down my mailbox by password - so that they
can't read my e-mails and write e-mails from my account.
So you want people to be able to use your thunderbird profile to read your work
account while you're gone, but not use your private account at all? Or do you
not want to allow them to use your thunderbird profile at all? The latter can be
done by password protecting the local cache via a hidden pref, but if the
former, you're right, we can't currently do that...

Well the former would be nice, but can you give me details on how to do the
latter, please?
tools | options | advanced | config editor, search for this pref :
mail.password_protect_local_cache and try changing it to true. This should
require the user to enter your server password before being able to access your
local mail. It's not often tested, so please let me know if you have problems.
