I am having a really bad experience with one of my long time favourite features:
Find as you type.
Ever since version 1.0 it's crashing 15% of the times I try to search within a
page. I use this feature a lot, so it crashes at least 4 times a day.
Usually the search feature stops working, it wont find anything, and then if I
try to use it again, it crashes.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
I dont have any search related extension installed.
I've sent many Talkback crash ID's, though lately they are having problems
contacting the talkback server. (Talkback always crashes anyway) Dont know this
particular bug crash ID's cause I delete them after sent or failure sending.
It just crashed again, simply by typing & searching.
Talkback.exe is having problems sending the crash reports, but I believe they
are probably being sent anyway, as I see 124kb go out everytime I make a report.
It says it cant connect so I dont have crash ID's for these. But if crash
reports are searchable you may search for "type ahead" and "type ahead feature"
in the comments.

(Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107
Firefox/1.0)
(HP Vectra VL400, 866MHz, 512MB, 27GB free HD, Windows XP Pro SP2 en-US)
I have noticed this glaring bug too, exactly as Mateo has described it.
When Firefox is first started up, fast-find/find bar works correctly (as it did
in the most recent version of Firefox).
After a while, "Find as you type" begins to beep an error for each keystroke
after the second or third character typed, and refuses to scroll the browser to
the next (or first) occurrence of a word, even if it is known to exist within
the text body of the web page. The Find Next and Find Previous buttons in the
Find toolbar are also rendered useless in this way.
Highlight toggle button - interestingly, the Highlight toggle button is
unaffected, as is the Match case toggle button; even though text in the "Find:"
box beeps errors, words within the web page text ARE successfully highlighted,
and new words can be searched-for in this more cumbersome way.
The Crash - the browser is left idle for several minutes after the fast-find
function first fails to perform correctly, and then subsequently new text is
typed (or pasted) into the "Find:" textbox. Firefox crashes, and all firefox
windows close.
Find bar fails on only one Tab at a time - In a browser window with multiple
Tabs open to different web sites, this Fast-find problem occurs first in the
Tabs that get the most use of the Find-bar. After the initial symptoms occur in
the offending Tab(s), other Tabs do not yet appear to exhibit this problem,
although they will invariably begin to do so with use.
Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox 1.0 does not make this bug go away,
however the effects of bug do not occur on the other computers (Windows XP Home
SP2 en-US) on which I have tested the same version of Firefox.
Reproducible: always
Seems to affect only specific computer configurations.
Yes, you described exactly, in great deal, what is happening to me. This is the
same exact bug. Thanks for describing it in more detail.
I wouldnt go on so far as to conclude that it "only affects specific computer
configurations" as mine is very different from yours, Win2000. Also, I've been
using every single version since more than a year ago and it didnt happen till I
installed version 1.0 final (on the same "computer configuration").

Bug 274625 is a duplicate of this one, but that bug has a lot more activity, so
go look at it.
I have the incident IDs of two crashes which happened to me when using the Find
Toolbar:
TB3335927M
TB3416424M
Bug that sometimes crashes with FAYT has been certainly generated.
But,
>Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; es-ES; rv:1.7.5)
Gecko/20041108 Firefox/1.0 StumbleUpon/1.998
Another cause is thought because it is not in official's build.
It might be INVALID if it limits it to this bug report.

I am using the official build - see my talkback IDs in comment #4 - and I
experience this crash.
My build (currently)
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050126 Firefox/1.0+
I can confirm that this bug exists
