When I go to Tools, Options, or when I visit a webpage that has a saved password (through Password Manager), I get this error message: Could not initialize the browser's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your browser's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and that your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the browser and fix the problem. If you continue to use this browser session, you might see incorrect browser behavior when accessing security features. All saved passwords are gone. Also, when I go to a page that uses SSL (such as paypal), I get this error message: You cannot connect to paypalssl.doubleclick.net because SSL is disabled. This does not happen in IE, only Firebird. I tried this using the nightly build above.
What version of Firefox are you using? (Paste the user-agent string from Help > About.)
Component: Password Manager → Build Config
Summary: Security and Passwords → Security component missing / SSL disabled
My version is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Girlfriend is having the same problem, same symptoms. Claims SSL is disabled on any site using SSL. Also noted that in the certificate manager there are no listings under the 'authorities' tab. File > Import did not resolve.
I had this maddening bug but, thanks to my son's brain, it has been eliminated (the bug - not his brain!). 1. Uninstall Firefox 2. Delete the folder C:\Documents & Settings\"User"\Application Data\Mozilla 3. Re-install Firefox. Bingo.
Before you uninstall and delete the mozilla folder in Documents and settings make sure you copy the file bookmarks.html and bookmarks.bak to a safe location then paste them back into the new folder after reinstalling Mozilla. That way you don't lose your bookmarks. These two files are in C:\Documents & Settings\"User"\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Default.if1 - also useful to know for backup at any time. Brain of son!!
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. This bug has been automatically resolved after a period of inactivity (see above comment). If anyone thinks this is incorrect, they should feel free to reopen it.
