Details
spun off from bug 274557 --move to Tabbed Browsing component if this is specific
to that feature and not Find toolbar.
found using recent trunk builds on Linux fedora core 2. not a problem in Firefox
1.0 (aviary 1.0 branch).
0. my find as you type pref "accessibility.typeaheadfind" is set to true.
1. open a new (blank) tab using the keyboard, ctrl+T --this differs from bug
230401, which requires opening a new tab via double-clicking.
2. start typing a url.
expected: focus should be in the Location field.
actual results: somehow FAYT is triggered instead, and the Find toolbar opens
with my location text.
I need to see if I did something before step 1 which gets me into this state
--unless it's a new behavior of setting accessibility.typeaheadfind to true.

marcia / tracy, do either of you encounter this? note that this specific to new,
blank tabs (not tabs with content opened from links, other apps, etc.).
Summary: focus for new tabs goes to find toolbar rather than the location field → focus for new (blank) tabs goes to find toolbar rather than the location field

another observation after hitting ctrl+T: in the new tab, the caret should be in
the Location field, but it's not.

This works as expected with Windows trunk Firefox builds.

ah, I think I found the recipe which gets me into this state:
0. make sure that "accessibility.typeaheadfind" is true (change it in the
Advanced prefs panel, if needed).
1. for simplicity, also make sure that your home page is set to some actual
content. it'd be easier if it's a page like http://www.mozilla.org which doesn't
set initial focus into a text field (you'll see why).
2. quit and restart firefox.
3. in your starting page, just start typing to find something (via FAYT) on the
page, such as "mozilla". as expected, the Find toolbar appears and the string is
highlighted in the page.
4. hit the Esc key to dismiss the Find toolbar.
5. hit ctrl+T to open a new tab.
results: noticed that the caret is not in the Location field of the new tab. if
you start typing, FAYT/the Find toolbar is triggered.
I'm going to see if this occurs on Mac...

using the recipe in comment 4, I can also repro this on Mac OS X 10.3.7 using
2005010408-trunk firefox bits.

seems like a dupe of bug 264562, kinda screwy bug if you type really fast after
hitting ctrl-T

pretty similar to bug 269712; making this depend on bug 264562 (which also
resolves 269712) to remind me to check this (and/or dup it) when the fix there
is checked in.
Depends on: 264562
